The Stone of Atlantis" or the "Dolphin Stone" — and it’s only found in one place on Earth: the Dominican Republic.

Larimar was discovered in 1974 by a Dominican man named Miguel Méndez. While exploring the beaches of Barahona province (southwest Dominican Republic), he stumbled upon strange, striking blue stones that had washed ashore. Locals had occasionally found bits of it before and assumed it was just sea glass or some unknown mineral — but Miguel knew it was special.

Intrigued, he followed the source up the Bahoruco River into the mountains, where he found the actual deposit — nestled in a volcanic region, hidden from plain sight. It was the only known source in the world.

The Name “Larimar”:

The name is actually a fusion of two deep loves in his life:

“Lari” comes from his daughter Larissa,

“Mar” is the Spanish word for sea,
— a tribute to both his child and the ocean that brought the stone to him.

So Larimar means “Larissa’s Sea” — a name as dreamy as the stone itself.
