Inner Mongolia Dragon Scepter Cluster

Huanggangliang is part of the Huanggang mining district in Hexigten Banner (Keshiketeng Qi), Inner Mongolia, China. It’s a large polymetallic skarn system known for iron-rich mineralization and complex crystal associations. Collectors recognize the locality for producing sharp, character-forward quartz rather than ultra-clean alpine-style material.

This formation is often referred to as “Dragon” because of the secondary quartz overgrowth across the prism faces. During a later growth phase, countless tiny quartz crystals nucleated along the surface, creating a tightly packed, repeating texture. The aligned micro-terminations catch light at different angles, and when combined with iron-rich staining in the recesses, the surface takes on a scaled, almost armored appearance. The effect is entirely natural growth, and the texture is what gives the crystal its distinctive dragon-like character.

This particular piece comes from an older collection dating back to the 1990s. One termination has been broken at some point in its history; when or how is unknown. The break is visible, and the piece is being represented accordingly. Careful trimming or professional preparation could refine the profile, but even as it stands, the structure, locality, and surface texture make it a strong example from this district.
